Applied Digital complete Three Peaks Challenge!

27th July 2016 in Charity

Members of the team at Applied Digital completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday 23rd July, to help raise money for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge consists of a 24.5 mile walk and climbing a total of 7064 feet, to be completed in under 12 hours and the Applied team managed it in 8hrs 57mins!

Andrew Womersley, Head of Development; Ian Wylde, Head of Design; Martyn Elliott, Web Content & SEO Manager; and Luke Jagger, SEO Executive spurred each other on to complete the challenge!

Andrew explains their journey here…

‘’The day started with a 5.30am alarm call and a mild hangover but a full english breakfast and a strong coffee later we were ready for the challenge ahead.

We set off towards Ingleborough at 6.45am not really knowing what was in store for us, except for 3 mountains and 24 miles. After scaling Ingleborough the reality of what we were doing set in, the intensity of the climb had taken it out of us and with no real opportunity to rest we set off towards Pen-Y-Ghent which was towering on the horizon.

Around 2 hours later, we arrived at the foot of Pen-Y-Gent, the way to the top looked even worse than Ingleborough and in places there was no footpath and we were climbing over rocks. At the top of Pen-Y-Gent was when I questioned would we even make it all the way around and if I did, what state would I be in at the end. But again, with the next mountain Whernside standing tall, even further away in the horizon, we set off down rocky mountain paths.

The climb up Whernside was very deceiving as the path curled right round the side rather than going straight up but it was during the ascent up Whernside I realised that we were not only actually going to do this, we were going to do well at it as our time was looking good. Once at the top, knowing we had scaled the last mountain, I think we all got a massive boost of energy and we practically ran down the mountain knowing the finish line was in sight. A short walk along a small country road at the bottom took us back to the starting point for us to clock in a time at 8hrs 57mins and relax with a well earned pint or two.

I can safely say that it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but also one of the best and most enjoyable. We are already discussing doing it again and getting our time below the 8 hour mark. An awesome experience I will never forget and one I would recommend to all.’’

We are raising money for this amazing charity due to the experience that Head of Development Andrew Womersley and his wife Keely have been through with their baby son Harris. Click here to find out more.
